Year 11 Student Harrison Van Der Lende is about to embark on the trek of a lifetime.
He writes –
“I have an interest in Australian Military history and a strong family connection to the Australian Defence Force. My current career aspiration is to go to the Australian Defence Force Academy and graduate as an Army Officer.
My great-grandfather served in the 2nd/10th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force (AIF) during WW2. The 2nd/10th Battalion AIF saw service in the United Kingdom, Egypt, Libya (Tobruk), Syria, Papua and Borneo before being disbanded just after Christmas in December 1945.
A number of my relatives have since served in the Australian Defence Force, including both of my parents, and my Opa who served in the Dutch Navy. My uncle is a Army Officer and I have the wonderful opportunity to traverse the Kokoda Track with him during the July 2016 school holidays.
Given this opportunity, I would like to use the time before the trek to do something worthwhile for the community and would like to raise money for Soldier On. Soldier On has helped a lot of service people who have physical and psychological wounds from their service, as well as supporting their families since it was founded. I would like to assist Soldier On to help many more people.”
Harry hopes to raise $2,000 for Soldier On. You can help him reach his goal by donating via https://soldieron.giveeasy.org/campaigns/kokoda-track-july-2016/
Best wishes Harry!
