If you strolled past the Hospitality kitchen on Tuesday 9th May you would have been drawn in by the delicious smell of Bacon, Leek and Potato Frittata baking in the oven, as our Year 10 and 11 Food and Hospitality students prepared and presented a 2 course meal to members of Lutheran Community Care as part of National Volunteers Week. The annual lunch which has previously been catered for and hosted outside of the College, was this year held in the foyer of the Barossa Arts & Convention Centre and catered for entirely by College students.
Music student Aidan Saunders set the tone for the celebration by entertaining guests on piano as they enjoyed the autumn colours and lively atmosphere of the College courtyard. It was a pleasure to watch the students in action, particularly hearing words of encouragement and praise as they worked in teams to prepare, plate and serve lunch to 60 guests. The trio of tarts including chocolate ganache, lemon curd and raspberry mousse was an outstanding showcase of the students’ eye for detail and pride in presentation. The experience not only offered students a wonderful opportunity to work on their food preparation and service skills, but take an active role in acknowledging the staff and volunteers from Lutheran Community Care and their contribution to the Barossa community.
