On Thursday 8th June the Open Boys and Girls Touch Team competed in the state finals of the Open Knockout Touch Competition. This was held at the SA Touch Association fields on Greenhill Road in Adelaide.
To get through to this point the two teams first took part in a minor round of games against a number of other schools that we hosted here at Faith. The Girls played 2 matches against Clare and Kadina High Schools while the Boys also had a 3rd game against Nuriootpa High School. This excellent start allowed both teams to make it through to the state finals where the students were able to see and experience Touch Football played at its highest level.
Our students were able to test their skills against significantly larger schools, often with multiple state representatives who have access to elite level coaches and who play in year round competitions. All of our students benefited greatly from exposure to the higher standard of competition with significant development in all aspects of gameplay occurring over the course of the day. Historically, winning games has proven challenging for Faith teams at this level however for consecutive years we have now achieved this and taken it up to the best teams. It was also pleasing to see former Faith students Ben Biagi and April Zimmerman contributing to the day in the roles of coach (Faith Open Boys) and referee (level 2) respectively.
