On Thursday, 2nd June, the Open Girls Soccer team played Round 1 of the Knock-Out Competition for 2016. The team played two tight, hard fought matches. The first match, against Nuriootpa High School, resulted in a 2 all draw with goals scored by Ebony O’Dea and Mikaela Hayes. After overtime still not leading to an outright winner, the girls went into a nail-biting penalty shoot-out. Thankfully Georgia O’Dea’s keeping was superb and Georgina Milne, Maeve Clementson-Duncan and Chelsea Burke were able to get their shots past the Nuriootpa keeper to give Faith the match. The second game, against Glossop High School, was a tough call for some very tired legs and unfortunately Faith was defeated 0-1. The tension of the round-robin competition was not over until we received the news that the Glossop vs Nuriootpa game resulted in another draw, giving Glossop enough points to proceed to the next round.

The Faith team, captained by Georgia O’Dea and Ebony O’Dea consisted of Georgia Lawrie, Madeline Ellis, Georgina Milne, Chelsea Burke, Karen Kalleske, Katrina Schiller, Holly Cook, Jessica Riley-Weinberg, Maeve Clementson-Duncan, Mikaela Hayes, Aspen Wood, Charlotte Spence, Katelyn Young, Mackenzie Noack, Elise Heinrich, and Stephanie Mifflin. The girls can be very proud of their conduct and their persistence. It was great to see some more junior students participating and uncovering previously undiscovered talent in the Faith side, which bodes well for the competition over the next couple of years. Thanks also to James King for being linesman.
