Twilight on Magnolia November 3 2017
Festival lights twinkled on the Western Oval at Faith Lutheran College as Twilight on Magnolia came to life with family groups, friends and colleagues enjoying the entertainment and fun of the bustling fair. The stunning sunset created a colourful backdrop for the live music, market stalls, carnival rides, community food stalls and even an animal ‘farm barn’. The climbing wall, bouncy castle and classic games of giant chess and totem tennis kept the young and the ‘young at heart’ amused. Pre-Christmas shopping was also on the agenda, with visitors stocking up on jewellery, plants, candles, clothing and more. Delicious smells of hot donuts, steak sandwiches and barbeques permeated the air as service groups, schools and sporting clubs cooked up a storm.
We also welcomed community fundraising initiatives to the Fair. This included Faith Year 11 Business students who created ‘pop up’ shops selling homemade lemonade, tie-dyed clothing, body products and a car wash service. Students experienced the thrill of managing and operating their own business as well as the satisfaction of raising money for charities close to their heart.
On the main stage, talented students showcased an array of music genres from jazz and rock to modern day hits. In the main tent, the Silent Auction was popular, as well as the Mengler View wine bar featuring newly released 2017 white wines and the 2016 reds produced at the College. The Year 12 Visual Arts and Design students showcased their work at the Art Exhibition. Sophie Griffiths and Benen Hamon won the People’s Choice award for favourite designer and artist respectively. Benen Hamon also won the art acquisition award.
Who could forget ‘Jill’ the cow? Punters followed her progress anxiously awaiting her deposit on their plot in the revived game of ‘Moo Poo’. As twilight turned to night, vocal group Harmonium took to the main stage, followed by the Jazz Ensemble and the The Yalumba Nursery fireworks lit up the night sky before concluding a wonderful evening with the staff rock band.
Special acknowledgement to College families and staff who volunteered their time to ensure the night’s success.
