SSSSA Knockout Football:
8/9 Boys – Round 1 – Played at Nuriootpa Oval 26/5/16

Faith 10-10-70 def. Nuriootpa HS 5-6-36

Best Players: M. Roocke, L. Westlake, D. Roennfeldt, J. Birchard, N. Grieve, J. Docherty

Goal Scorers: H. Kleinig 2, L. Westlake, D. Birchard, J. Docherty, N. Grieve, M. Roocke, D. Roennfeldt, B. Roennfeldt, J. Birchard

The game got underway in heavy conditions with a shower sweeping over the ground as the players contested the opening bounce. Fortunately coaches Foulis and Darling had established good position beneath the coaches box from where they were able to implement their pretzel fuelled game plan in relative comfort. The Faith midfield of Roocke, Docherty and Westlake were provided first use of the ball courtesy of Jayden Birchard in the ruck. With Jayden tapping well to the advantage of his teammates they were able to win clearances regularly throughout the game. The forwards did well to create more scoring opportunities than might have been expected in the wet, although accuracy did prove a challenge on some occasions. Thomas Bell held down a key role at centre half back to blunt the Nuriootpa attack and negate the impact of one of their key players. He was well supported by Aaron Bert, Ross Grady, Benson Heintze and Todd Falkenberg who all contested hard and provided plenty of rebound from defence. A consistent four quarter effort with all players contributing well allowed for plenty of rotation off the interchange bench. The winning result means the Faith lads will have the opportunity to compete against Glossop and the winner of Clare, Balaklava or Riverton in round 2 of the competition.
