Catered by the Year 11 Hospitality students who worked diligently before the event to design, trial, prepare and present a restaurant-quality menu, this year’s event was held in the College’s Wine Education Centre. The evening commenced with Pre Dinner drinks and individual antipasto platters in the ‘engine room’ of the College Winery. Year 10 vocalist Demi Koch accompanied by Mr Frank Cammans on piano delighted the audience during the main course of a creamy sundried tomato chicken pie served with broccoli, cranberry and roasted almond salad.
The 2020 wine releases were crafted by Year 10 Agriculture students during Term 1. Guided by Winemaker Mr Bob Mitchell and his team of staff, including Ms Marianne Nelson, Mr Jason Stewart and Mr Craig Moore, 9 tonnes of generously donated grapes were crushed during vintage and used to make a fruit-driven Sauvignon Blanc, a Rosé style wine made from Alicante Bouschet and a Riesling. The 2020 wine release also included a 2019 Shiraz, bottled after spending 16 months maturing in oak at the College’s onsite winery.
Presented by Troy Kalleske (Class of 1995), Year 10 student Alice Cook was announced as the Kalleske Wines Excellence Award winner for her dedication to Wine Studies. Quentin Falkenberg of Creative Q Design declared Year 12 Visual Arts and Design student Nicholas Crockett as the winner of the latest release wine label design competition.
