Children learn best when their whole bodies and minds are stimulated, and being active does just that.

Each Wednesday afternoon Faith Lutheran College ELC children participate in a PE lesson with Mrs Smart. 30 minutes of fun, fitness and active play that the children look forward to in the beautiful ELC & Junior Campus school grounds.

“We are so blessed to have the services of a qualified physical education teacher to guide our ELC children.” explains ELC Co-coordinator Sonya Joseph, “Justine understands children’s development and creates a program that reflects the ages, stages and motivations of children aged 3 to 5.”

Participation in this program gives the children an opportunity outside of home and ELC to develop and practise gross and fine motor movement and balance patterns. It supports spatial awareness and allows children to develop an understanding of the benefits of physical play.

“We play group games and practise simple skills with equipment too, we laugh and enjoy the challenges.”

In celebration of their PE classes, our Early Learning Centre children and families enjoyed their own ‘Little Sports are Good Sports Day’ on Wednesday 18th September, as they engaged in a series of activity stations set up by Mrs Smart with assistance from the Upper Primary students. They Year 5/6 children thoroughly enjoyed buddying up and guiding their younger peers through the fun activities.

Children learn best when their whole bodies and minds are stimulated, and being active does just that. The learning and growth gained through being active is important for developing a child’s physical, social, language, emotional and intellectual skills. At the ELC we value the importance of giving children the opportunity to engage in a variety of physical activities which are complemented by Mrs Smart’s weekly PE lessons with the children.
