Our Story

Trailblazing since 1845

For over one and a half centuries, pioneer Lutheran faith has been a feature of the Barossa landscape.

Amongst church spires and vineyards, the passion for quality education has been instilled in the hearts and minds of generations before us. In fact, we’ve been trailblazing since 1845 when the first Barossa Lutheran education facility opened in Tanunda.

‘Langmeil School’ as Tanunda Lutheran School was known then, was the first step in our unending pursuit of an education which brings something extra to the ordinary.

As the Barossa celebrated 140 years of Lutheran education, courage and faith guided the opening of ‘Faith Lutheran Secondary School’ in 1985.

Passionate educators and a supportive community enabled the school to thrive and quickly grow from the inaugural class of 26 students, to over 600.

Whilst the landscape has changed, and education has evolved, we’re still trailblazing.

In 2018 Tanunda Lutheran School and Faith Lutheran College amalgamated to become the first ELC to Year 12 school in the region – welcoming our youngest three year olds and continuing to nurture, care and develop each individual as they journey through to Year 12 and the world beyond. Furthermore, we deliver the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Continuing the Faith tradition to be at the forefront of education.

Acknowledging the collective wisdom of those who went before us and living out the values laid down in earlier times that are still very relevant today is a part of what shapes our ELC – 12 College into what it is today.

Across two campuses, we view education from age three to young adults as a wonderful journey deserving of a unique approach where students come first.

In 2020 we celebrated 175 years of Lutheran education at our Junior School. We invite you to hear our story…
