Year 12 Child Studies visit to ELC
Our Year 12 Child Studies students recently embraced the play based approach to learning in our ELC, by developing toys and books to share with their younger peers.
As part of Year 12 Child Studies, students were asked to critically analyse the importance of play regarding healthy development in young children and investigate the importance of literature and stories in their social and emotional development. Students approached these assessments by developing their own toys and books to share with our Early Learning Centre students.
Calling on their Year 8 Tech Studies skills, drawing on their creative writing capabilities, upskilling in Adobe Illustrator, learning how to use a laser cutter, sewing, crocheting, working with wood and designing their own Science Kit were just some of the skills our students harnessed to complete this assessment.
When the big day came, it was really special to see the ‘big kids’ interact with the ELC students in such a genuine nurturing manner. Judging by the smiles on everyone’s faces not only were the learning outcomes met but new friendships were formed.
